Matilda I
$13.00 – $30.00
The Matilda I (A11) was a pre-WW2 British infantry tank design armed with single Vickers machine gun of either .303 inch or .50 inch calibre. It only saw active service in the Battle of France in 1940.
As a tank design from the inter-war period, the Matilda I was designed to a low-cost budget, for quick delivery and to serve in a war similar to the Great War. Protection for the two man crew was excellent against contemporary anti-tank guns. However the tracks and running gear were fully exposed, and the lack of a suitable anti-tank gun was limiting. The few remaining Matilda Is remaining follow Dunkirk and the British withdrawal from Cherbourg were withdrawn from active service and transferred to the training role.
