The Sopwith Pup had a top speed of 180 kph (112 mph) and was armed with a single 0.303 inch Vickers machine gun synchronised to fire through the propeller.
The Sopworth Pup originated from Sopworth's design of a personal aircraft for the company's test pilot (plus four similar aicraft). The Pup was larger, more powerful, and used ailerons instread of wing-warping for lateral control. It had good flying characteristics and manouvrability. This made it suitable for use in aircraft carrier trials.
