The Cruiser Tank Mk III (A13 Mk I) was the first British tank based on the revolutionary Christie suspension. It was designed to take the A9 turret with QF 2-pounder and coaxial water-cooled Vickers .303 inch MG.
The Christie suspension allowed higher speeds and improved cross-country performance. In line with British tank doctrine at that time, the A3 Mk I was lightly armoured, similarly to the A9. The A13 Mk I served in France and North Africa, with a few used in Greece. It formed the basis for the Cruiser Tank Mk IV (A13 Mk II).
