The BT-5 was a lightly armoured fast tank armed with a 45mm 20-K gun and coaxial DT machine gun in a cylindrical turret.
The BT-5 was part of the BT tank series, fast light tanks using the Christie suspension system. Initial versions had the ability to remove the tracks and travel on roads as a wheeled vehicle. Crews found this of little practical use, and it was dropped from later Soviet designs. The BT series of tanks had the best mobility of all contemporary tanks.
