The T-60 was a light tank armed with the 20mm TNSh automatic cannon, similar to that used on Soviet aircraft.
The T-60 was a stop-gap development in the early days of Operation Barbarossa, designed to restock the tank corps' heavy losses. This was due to the inability of the T-34 and KV-1 production lines to deliver sufficient reliable tanks. The poor anti-armour capability of the 20mm gun resulted in the commencement of the development of a new turret to mount the 45mm tank gun in a new larger turret. This turret was fitted to the T-70 following the cancellation of the T-60.
